About Us
The Thomas S. Wootton High School Instrumental Music Program is a dynamic and high-achieving community where students engage in a wide range of musical experiences.
With multiple bands, orchestras, and specialized ensembles, students have opportunities to perform in concerts, competitions, festivals, and collaborative performances throughout the year.
We build our program on a tradition of excellence, where our ensembles consistently earn top ratings and receive invitations to perform at prestigious events and conferences.
Students regularly participate in district, state, and national honor groups, as well as regional youth orchestras, reflecting both the strength of the program and the dedication of its musicians.
At its core, the Wootton music program is about more than performance—it is about creating meaningful experiences. Students collaborate across ensembles, explore diverse repertoire, and contribute to a culture that values commitment, creativity, and connection.
Whether a student is just beginning or performing at an advanced level, each musician plays an important role in shaping the sound and spirit of our program.

Why Play an Instrument?
There is ample evidence that the arts help students develop the attitudes, characteristics, and intellectual skills required to participate in today’s society and economy. The arts teach self-discipline, reinforce self-esteem, and foster the thinking skills and creativity so valued in the workplace. They teach the importance of teamwork and cooperation. They demonstrate the direct connection between study, hard work, and high levels of achievement.
