Music Courses for Every Passion & Skill Level
Wootton High School offers a dynamic range of music courses, from foundational band and orchestra classes to advanced ensembles like Wind Symphony, Jazz Combo, and Chamber Choir. Whether you're a beginner exploring instruments or a seasoned musician aiming for state-level competitions, our curriculum builds technique, theory, and performance skills in a supportive environment tailored to your goals.

Wind Ensemble
The Wind Ensemble is the top performing band and is primarily an ensemble for 10th – 12th grade students who wish to perform Grade 5 and 6 level music.
As acceptance into this ensemble is by audition, most students in this group take private lessons. The Wind Ensemble performs in at least three concerts per year as well as in the MCPS District Festival. This group also participates in the yearly overnight trips.
Students will be asked to participate in mandatory sectionals that will be apart of their grade to further the success of the group. Sectionals will be announced in class.

Symphonic Winds
Symphonic Winds is an ensemble for 9th – 12th grade students who wish to play more advanced music, and further develop their musical skills. This ensemble is by recommendation of either your middles school or high school band director.
If a 9th grade student wishes to audition for this group they must contact Mrs. Eckerle or Mrs. Herman. This ensemble will perform in at least 2 concerts a year, and perform in the MCPS District Festival. This group also participates in the yearly trips.
Students will be asked to participate in mandatory sectionals that will be apart of their grade to further the success of the group. Sectionals will be announced in class.

Patriot Winds
Patriot Winds is open to 9th – 12th grade woodwind, brass, and percussion students who wish to develop their musical skills.
No auditions is necessary to become a member of this band.. Patriot Winds performs in at least two concerts per year as well as in the MCPS District Festival.
This group also participates in the yearly overnight trips.

Jazz Band
The Jazz band is an audition-only ensemble. This ensemble is a standard big band for advanced students who enjoy playing many styles of jazz.
This group will play in the county jazz festival and at least three other performances. Please contact Mrs. Eckerle if you are interested in auditioning for this group.
Video audition submissions are due March 19th at 11:59 pm. Current Wootton students will submit their audition submission on Canvas and non-Wootton students will submit their videos through this link.

Chamber Orchestra
Chamber Orchestra is an ensemble for 10 – 12 grade students who wish to play more advanced music. This is the top orchestra at Wootton, and most students in this group take private lessons.
This ensemble is by audition only. This ensemble will perform in at least 2 concerts every school year, and perform in the MCPS District Festival. This group also participates in the yearly overnight trips.

This ensemble is by appointment only. If a 9th grade student wishes to audition for this group they must contact MRs. Eckerle or Mrs. Herman. This ensemble will perform in at least 2 concertS a year, and perform in the MCPS District Festival.

Patriot Strings
Concert Orchestra is an inclusive ensemble for 9 – 12 grade students who wish to further develop their musical skills, no audition is necessary.
This ensemble will perform in at least 2 concert a year, and perform in the MCPS District Festival. This group also participates in the yearly trips.
